Novelist, essayist, poet, and translator. His latest book is The Dance and the Fire (Finalista del 39° Premio Herralde de Novela; Anagrama, 2021). También es autor de los libros de poemas That Pure Matter (Winner of the Jaime Reyes Award 2007) and The Autobiographical Machine (2012 & 2019), as well as the novels Among Strange Victims (2016) and Ramifications (2020), both translated into several languages. His collection of personal essays Planes Flying Over a Monster (Anagrama, 2021). En 2024 publicó el ensayo sonoro Los ayudantes del sol (Everand).
Ha sido becario del Fondo Nacional para la Cultura y las Artes en el programa de Jóvenes Creadores (2006-2007 y 2016-2017), de la Fundación para las Letras Mexicanas (2007-2008 y 2008-2009) y del programa de Residencias Artísticas FONCA-Conseil des Arts et des Lettres du Québec (Montreal, Canadá, 2012). Ha sido escritor residente y becario en la Union des Écrivaines et des Écrivains Québecois (Quebec), The MacDowell Colony (EE.UU.), Omi International Center for the Arts (EE.UU.), The Banff Center (Canadá), en la and the Writer's Residence at the Museum of Latin American Art of Buenos Aires (Argentina) y en la Fundación Jan Michalski (Suiza).
He curated and introduced the anthologies Twelve Sharp: New Chilean Poetry (1971-1982) (2012) and A New Mode: New Mexican Fiction (2012). His poetry has been anthologized in Divine Treasure: A Showcase of New Mexican Poetry (2008) Best of New Mexican Writing (2008) and A Golden Age: Contemporary Mexican Poetry (2012). His fiction was included in Voces -30 Latinoamérica (2014) Mexico20: New Voices, Old Traditions (Pushkin Press, 2015), Bogota39: New Voices from Latin America (OneWorld, 2018) and The Infraordinary: Narratives around Georges Perec and the search for everyday life (2018), among others.
He authored the multidisciplinary project Universal Method of Derived Poetry, showcased in the Sixth Public Art Forum at Sala de Arte Público Siqueiros (2009) and the Internacional FILBA Festival in Buenos Aires (2019). He was also a part of the group show Every Original Will Be Destroyed, at House of Gaga Gallery (Mexico City) in 2014.
Como traductor, ha trabajado con textos sobre arte para el Museo Universitario de Arte Contemporáneo (MUAC) y el Museum of Modern Art (MoMA) de Nueva York. En colaboración con la autora, tradujo al español la novela Lost Children Archive (Desierto sonoro), de Valeria Luiselli. Ha traducido también a Francisco Goldman, Nellie Bly, Jon Lee Anderson y Bryan Washington, entre otros.

In 2017, he was named one of the best Latin American writers under 40 by the Hay Festival’s Bogotá39 list. In 2020, he won the Eccles Centre & Hay Festival Writers Award, granted by the British Library and the Hay Festival in the UK.
Fue becario del Cullman Center for Scholars and Writers de la New York Public Library por el periodo 2022-2023. Actualmente es becario de la Fundación Borchard y miembro del Sistema Nacional de Creadores de Arte. Lo representa a nivel internacional la agencia literaria Casanovas & Lynch, from Barcelona.
